Maps Talks 3 – Making of a Scene in Post Transition
2024-03-08
The third installment in the “Maps' ' article series by Elian Stefa sparked significant discussions among art enthusiasts and cultural practitioners in Albania. The conversation centred on the scarcity of exhibition spaces and the necessity for self-organization and unity within the independent scene.
During the meeting, various examples from European and Balkan countries were presented, demonstrating how synergy and collaborative efforts have led to the creation of spaces and their subsequent organization into larger, long-term projects with a shared, clear vision.
The discussion was inspired by Elian Stefa’s research, which catalogues numerous vital spaces that, due to gentrification, have been forced to shut down. This opened up conversations about the interplay between economic policies and urban planning in nurturing a vibrant artistic scene.
