Breaking Cultural Barriers: UNAA and National Theatre of Opera and Ballet partner to Include Audio Description in Artistic Programs

On November 2nd, a pivotal memorandum of cooperation was signed between these two entities, marking a historic milestone in Albanian arts. The agreement is a pledge to inclusivity and begins with a series of performances featuring audio descriptions. This initiative is fueled by previous informative masterclasses held by UNAA X ArtNexus and represents a forward-thinking move to reshape the cultural experience in Albania.
'The Nutcracker' ballet will be the first to be showcased in this inclusive format, scheduled for December 26th It sets a precedent in the Albanian arts scene, signifying a leap toward a future where art transcends all barriers, welcoming all individuals to immerse in its enchanting world.
For the first time, visually impaired art enthusiasts in Albania will have the opportunity to experience performances through audio descriptions. Abigeila Voshtina, the General Director of TKOBAP, has affirmed that staff training by UNAA is ongoing to expand the repertoire of performances with audiovisual descriptions, emphasizing the commitment to an inclusive approach.
This signing followed a masterclass on audio description, led by expert Peter Lilliecrona, which was a foundational event that led to this agreement. Held on October 3rd and 4th, it was a crucial step in preparing Albanian cultural professionals and staff from the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, as well as many other professionals from media outlets, for this innovative venture, further underscoring UNAA's commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse cultural landscape.
